Buying and Selling of Real Estate

There are no restricting conditions for foreigners concerning the buying of property in the Dominican Republic. In 1998 the presidential decree 21-98 ruled that foreigners can buy all the property they want, complete with the title of possession ( the
proof of ownership).

NEW LAW OF TAX FREEDOM

In the endeavor of opening up the country and stimulating investments, the government not only is building an extensive infrastructure, such as constructing 9 international airports - one at 30 minutes distance from Las Terrenas- , but also approved a law that came into force last January.
This law concerns tourist areas with strong potential that need developing, for instance the north region. Companies in these parts of the country can benefit from freedom of company taxes (100%) as well as national and municipal taxes on building permits and ownership certificates (100%). A company is also for 100 % freed of import taxes. This period of tax freedom lasts for a maximum of 3 years during the starting of a project and for a maximum of 10 years for the exploitation phase.
